    Reading and understanding

I have managed social media pages for companies for the last seven to nine years, mostly aimed at Ugandans.

For a long time I have been planning to write about this, because so many Ugandans on Facebook either don’t read to the end, don’t pay attention, or simply don’t understand what they read.

When I post a job opportunity and say clearly that CVs must be sent by email and that comments or inbox messages will not be considered, many people still comment to ask about the salary, write “Hire me”, or send a message to the inbox and then complain that we ignored them. Really?

In other posts we announce an offer or a product and tell people to call 077xxxxxxx, email xxxx@sssss.aaa or visit us at Plot xxxx for more information. Guess what the most common comments are? “Where do we find you?” and “What is your contact?” I don’t want to be rude, but so many times I feel like replying: read the post above!

I am not sure why this happens, or why so many people just don’t get it. I know it is partly about education. When I was in school, it was one of the main things they taught us: understand what you read, and be able to explain it to the teacher. It was a basic part of my education.

Should I assume that many of these people were never taught this?

No offence intended, and please don’t attack me. I know and work with many sharp Ugandans, but so many of the people I meet on social media in Uganda are driving me mad.

I would like to know what you think.
